Homeland
By: Aisha Farah
Refugees in exile
and their children born in foreign lands,
wishing to return to their homeland,
wishing to return to how it was
before
everything had changed
and their lives were shattered
and their families were scattered.
One day we will return to our homeland -
no longer seeking refuge in foreign lands -
and rebuild our country,
standing on the shoulders of giants,
and honor the sacrifices of our parents
who left home and gave up their dreams
for the chance of better lives elsewhere.
It will be a true homecoming.
